Richard McMahon has spent the last 30 years spearheading industry initiatives in the Energy sector. Recently retired from his role as Senior Vice President of Energy Supply & Finance and Chief ESG Officer at the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), Richard now leads Energy Insight Consulting, where he leverages his extensive experience to advise on energy and financial strategies within the space.
During his tenure at EEI, Richard played a pivotal role in shaping the industry’s approach to natural gas, renewable energy, and energy storage, while also leading the industry's engagement with Wall Street, including initiatives such as the EEI ESG Template. His expertise has been recognized through his testimony before the United States Congress and various federal and state regulatory bodies.
Richard has authored numerous articles on electric generation, power markets, ESG, and industry finance and continues to share his knowledge as a guest lecturer at Georgetown University. Before his retirement, he held various leadership roles at EEI, including directing the state-level legislative and regulatory advocacy program. Additionally, he founded the EnviroTech Venture Capital Fund, which was capitalized at $52 million.
Prior to joining EEI, Richard held management positions at the National Association of Securities Dealers in the NASDAQ Stock Market. He earned an M.B.A. in Finance from George Washington University and a B.A. from Duquesne University. He has also completed executive leadership programs at Stanford University and the Center for Creative Leadership.
